The Kiwanis Club of Brighton had produced and managed the Bayside "Carols in the Park" since 2001. A Club Analysis had shown that members wanted a high profile local project to create a better awareness of Kiwanis in its community. The local carols where attracting an audience of around 1,500 people and some members felt that as Brighton Club was good at putting on events it should approach the Council to do so. There submission was accepted. The Brighton Club was given Dendy Park, a Council grant of $16,000.00 for a production that costs in excess of $30,000 to stage. Brighton Club was responsible for all aspects of the show including performers, performance, staging and event management. It worked in 2001 when 4,500 people attended and in 2002 more than 6,500 people celebrated the theme of the "Miracle of Christmas" with doves, camels, fireworks, terrific young performers making it a very special night for the community of Bayside. Kiwanis had increased the audience by 5,000 in two years. Brighton Club made an increased surplus each year. The Kiwanis Club delivered a quality show for the community to experience the love, joy and hope that is the message Christmas. The Kiwanis Club of Brighton has increased its profile enormously in the community The Mayor referred to the Bayside "Carols in the Park" in his welcome address as "the most significant event in the City of Bayside calendar". In December 2003 Bayside City Council took over full management and control of this highly sucessfull comunity event. | |||
